Blueye developed from the needs of racing jockeys. The founder of the company, Dean Bennell was working as a horse trainer and realised that the design and materials used for jockeys' goggles had not been improved since the 1950s. Concept design began in 1995 with Paul Cohen from Think Product Design. Dean's brother Marc Bennell joined the company as a partner and Blueye entered the market in 1996. It was soon realised that the goggles had potential for many other sports, and a range of wrap-around sunglasses was added to the product range.

Today Blueye offereyewear for motorcycling, mountain biking, fishing, Polo, skydiving, hang gliding, sailing, jet-skiing, surfing and other extreme sports. A special design - Clearway is available for spectacle wearers with an insert to carry presciption lenses fitted by your optician.

Design of the Year

In 1998-99, Blueye was awarded the Australian 'Design of the Year' with the judges saying that:
"Blueye goggles are the ultimate wrap-around eye guard for extreme sports".

Since that time the product range has been refined and further developed. The most modern materials are used to provide high impact resistance from hard objects such as stones thrown up by car tyres and from wind and spray, and also to ensure maximum comfort for the user. The ultra-tough frames are engineered to ensure that no discomfort is felt, even if wearing a close fitting helmet for lengthy periods of time.

Blueye eyewear lenses are moulded from polycarbonate which gives 100% resistance to UVA and UVB radiation - increasingly important in today's climates. The varying thickness of the 'decentred' lenses ensures optical excellence, irrespective of the angle of view. Antifog and hard coatings ensure the required fogging and scratch resistance.

Some 2008 styles offer polarized lens options to reduce glare from reflected light. Chill, Riot, Loaded and Eel uniquely combine the very high impact performance qualities of polycarbonate with the antiglare benefits of polarization, and are particularly welcomed by fishermen.
